L8 Visualizer has announced on Facebook an update to its product offering by introducing a fully free L8 MVR license tier within the standard L8 v65 build. Designed to foster open standards and streamline cross-platform workflows, the new tier gives lighting designers, students, and pre-programmers instant access to real-time visualization without requiring a physical USB hardware dongle.

Seamless MVR Integration & Open Workflows By prioritizing native support for the My Virtual Rig (.mvr) format, L8 enables users to easily exchange complete scene data - including fixture types, 3D positions, and patching - directly from MVR-compliant CAD, planning, and control systems.

Key Features of the Free L8 MVR License

  • Native MVR Support: Direct scene import from third-party design tools via .mvr files.

  • Up to 128 Fixtures & 2 DMX Universes: Real-time visualization for small-to-mid-sized rigs and pre-programming setups.

  • Full Fixture Library Access: Complete access to the continuously updated L8 library with high-precision optics and beam physics.

  • Dongle-Free Cloud Activation: Instant activation straight from the software startup screen with an active internet connection.

  • 1 Year of Free Updates: Includes 12 months of updates, with the installed build remaining fully functional indefinitely.

The industry’s rapid transition toward open file formats like MVR and GDTF has transformed how designers collaborate. By embedding a free MVR tier directly into L8 v65, L8 aims to make high-performance visualization accessible to everyone and strengthen the open standard ecosystem.

Availability The Free L8 MVR License is available today in the standard L8 v65 installer. Users can download the build at https://L8.ltd and activate their license directly upon launch.
