Luminex Adds Full MVR & GDTF Integration to Araneo Studio

The latest version of Araneo Studio from Luminex introduces fully integrated workflows for MVR and GDTF files. Complete, patched, and configured setups can be imported via MVR, while fixtures can also be added from a local GDTF library. Users can upload GDTF files directly to My Library, browse profiles by manufacturer and model, and assign them during project setup or MVR import. GDTF profiles can also be assigned to fixtures imported without one, helping fill gaps in real-world project data. With the fixture information in place, individual fixtures or custom-defined groups can be selected and tested across parameters such as color, pan, tilt, zoom, and more, helping ensure that every aspect of fixture performance is validated.

Ross Williams: Tools for the Lighting Programmer

In his latest Technical Note Tools for the Lighting Programmer, Ross Williams writes about his workflow and tools, how he likes to structure his work, and what the exact points of such a workflow are. He emphasizes the important point: it is the programmer who is there to make the show look good; the tools are there to support him. GDTF and MVR formats and their implementations in applications are there to remove repetitive work, increase efficiency, prevent mistakes, and allow the flow of data such as position, fixture number, patch, mode, or 3D location between applications. Ross's workflow includes several programs, such as Vectorworks, HogTools, MA Tools, Reaper, CuePoints, Depence / Syncronorm, Wysiwyg / CAST Software, as well as his own Ross Williams Apps.

ChamSys MagicQ v1.9.8.3 Ships with MVR and GDTF Import Improvements

Chamsys has released version 1.9.8.3 with several updates to GDTF and MVR import handling, focused on more reliable fixture matching and fixture data interpretation. The changes improve channel assignment, physical dimension calculation, and default colour temperature behaviour for imported fixtures. Matching logic has also been refined to better handle manufacturer and mode-name variations.
